Take a virtual ride in the Mercedes-Benz EQS Electric Sedan

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the brand’s first electric sedan to reach the production line later this year. So far, the electric flagship sedan looks impressive. In addition to the beautiful MBUX hyper screen, the EQS has a WLTP range up to 770 km (479 miles).

There is still a lot we do not know about the new EV, but the video above gives us a better idea. Our very own Kyle Conner has a virtual ride with Dr. Fabian Wuttke, project leader, sedan development done for Daimler. While dr. Wuttke toured Stuttgart, he discussed how the whole vehicle architecture was developed from scratch, not based on an ICE vehicle, which is probably the main reason why it is so efficient. Another thing that helps the efficiency of the EQS is the low 0.20 Cd. The brand claims that it is the lowest of any series production vehicles.

Dr. Wuttke confirmed that the battery pack has 107.8 kWh of usable energy and that the total size is slightly more than 113 kWh. The maximum charging speed is 200 kW, which reaches about 300 km in just 15 minutes. The loading curve should remain relatively flat up to 80 percent. Once the EPA assesses the EQS, it will be lower than the WLTP rating, probably in the vicinity of 400 miles.

The version he drove delivers a total of 385 kW (516 hp) and a torque of 828 Nm (611 lb-ft) from his front and rear engines. He said the big sedan would drive 100 km / h (62 km / h) in just 4.3 seconds and could start several times. Although it is fast, dr. Wuttke emphasizes the convenience of the EQS. The brand wants to maintain the legacy of the ultimate S-Class comfort, which means Mercedes has focused a lot on reducing NVH (noise, vibration and hardness) and overall comfort.

Mercedes will continue to release information as it gets closer to the production date later this year, including OTA update information.
