Take a look at Vietnam and its leader Lady Triệu in Civilization 6 • Eurogamer.net

Firaxis has released a deep dive video revealing Vietnam for Civilization 6.

Vietnam, which is part of the New Frontier Pass available on January 28, is led by Bà Triệu, also known as Triệu Thị Trinh or Lady Triệu. Bà Triệu fought against the occupation of North Vietnam by the Wu Kingdom in the early 200s AD.

Vietnam’s unique ability is Nine Dragon River Delta, which allows all specialty districts in the country to build on rainforest, swamp or forest tiles only. Buildings on each type of tile get additional science, production or culture. This ability also allows forests with the medieval Faires civic.

Bà Triệu’s unique capability is Drive Out the Aggressors, which provide additional combat power for units fighting in rainforest, swamp or forest tiles. This bonus is further increased for tiles owned in Vietnam. If you start a turn in rainforest, swamp or forest, the units get extra movement, which is also promoted for tiles that are owned.

Vietnam has a unique medieval unit called the Voi Chien, which can move after attack. It’s more expensive than the crossbowman unit that replaces it, but it’s stronger than you defend and has a larger sight.

And lastly, the unique district of Vietnam is the Thanh, which provides additional culture for each adjoining district. Once flights are investigated, the district generates tourism equal to its cultural outputs. It does not require a population and is cheaper to build than the camp it replaces.

Vietnam seems to be a relatively flexible terrain-focused country, depending on the location of districts on science or culture. Firaxis proposes that buildings be built as soon as possible to utilize their extra returns. Avoid desert, but do not be afraid to settle in open plains or grassland, as Vietnam can plant in the forest early. However, rainforests cannot be planted, so think carefully before cutting them down.

Wood, rainforest and swamp tiles owned in Vietnam offer the important significant tactical advantages, which make Vietnam a ‘defensive power station’, Firaxis says. But if you choose your battle strategically, these tiles also allow Vietnam to deliver crippling offensive attacks.

However, beware of forest fires and volcanoes – this can be especially devastating for Vietnam.

As mentioned, Civilization 6’s fifth DLC, the Vietnam & Kublai Khan Pack, launches on January 28th. Those who own the New Frontier Pass get this DLC, or you can buy it separately for £ 7.39.
