Taco Bell announces that ‘Chicken Sandwich Taco’ will appear on the menus nationwide in 2021

So much to think about outside of the sandwich.

Just like basically all the other fast food restaurants that exist, Taco Bell has officially entered the so-called ‘chicken sandwich wars’ with a new ‘Chicken Sandwich Taco’ announced on Monday morning.

The necklace describes the object as a sandwich / taco hybrid, made with a crispy piece of chicken marinated in buttermilk served with jalapeno before being dusted with “fat Mexican spices” and rolled in a tortilla slice layer . Then chicken is built into a puffed bread, shaped into an iconic taco shape, and topped with creamy chipotle sauce. The “spicy” version also comes with pickled jalapenos

The new items, which cost $ 2.49 each, will begin testing on March 11 in Nashville and Charlotte. A nationwide launch planned for later in 2021.

“Is the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco a sandwich or a taco, you ask? Well, it’s a sandwich AND a taco,” reads a press release for the upcoming article. “And it doesn’t have to explain itself so nicely.”

The new items will be tested from March 11 in Nashville and Charlotte, NC.

Taco Bell had earlier indicated the release of a new article specifically designed to compete against the many chicken sandwiches already announced at major fast food restaurants. In January, Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s chief global food innovation officer, teased the mystery chicken item in an interview with Business Insider. She added that the offer would start somewhere in the next 24 months, along with ‘all’ the new ideas from Taco Bell that were discarded during the pandemic.

“I think a lot of players out there are doing good work, but what I would say is that we will interrupt it with what we are going to do on chicken,” Matthews told Business Insider.

Taco Bell’s latest announcement comes as more restaurants prepare to enter the “chicken bread wars” and compete with the ever-popular Popeyes Chicken Sandwich. McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s are among those preparing to launch their own new offerings (all of which look like the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich). Even KFC – a restaurant run by Taco Bell’s parent company Yum! Brands – has expanded its latest chicken sandwiches nationwide to restaurants.
