Sygic adds Android Auto support in the latest beta

Earlier this year, Google finally launched Android Auto for third-party navigation apps. Now the first of the programs is finally available. Sygic has just added support for Android Auto and you can download it today.

Update 4/5: Besides Google opening the Play Store for Android Auto apps today, Sygic has made its formal debut. Now all users can download the Sygic app to their phones and use it on Android Auto, no beta access required.

One of the most anticipated events for drivers using Android phones is here. Sygic GPS navigation is now available on Android Auto as one of the first navigation apps, which offers the benefit of offline maps. Sygic is currently used by more than 200 million users worldwide.

Sygic GPS navigation on Android Auto offers a whole new experience and convenience. By mirroring the navigation app on the screen of your car, you can use safer navigation and that means no more devices on the windshield, and you do not have to look down or handle your phone while driving.

Our original coverage follows:

Sygic is now available via the Play Store and has added support for Android Auto in a beta version of the app. With this update, Sygic becomes the first third-party app that supports Google’s platform, because for the longest time, only Google Maps and Waze were available to users.

Sygic is an extremely popular mapping service with over 50 million downloads in the Google Play Store alone. Of course, the service offers GPS-based navigation, but also supports user reports for traffic cameras and even some AR features in parts of Europe. Sygic also supports additional offline features that Google Maps does not.

A Reddit user was able to update the app’s new Android Auto Support to his vehicle and share photos of the interface in a message. The UI for Sygic on Android Auto is not completely different from that of Google Maps, and the app even supports the bottom bar to show directions while a user is in a media app.

The Sygic beta app is open to everyone via the Play Store, which means that the navigation service on Android Auto is running, just a few taps and an update! Hopefully this feature will move to the stable orbit sooner rather than later.
