Suspects in riots in Capitol, including the man seen in Pelosi’s office, are facing federal charges

Officials have released additional details about crimes for which several people are now facing federal charges following riots and attacks on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

A senior Justice Department official said Friday that law enforcement arrested Richard Barnett, 60, in Little Rock, Ark., After a viral photo showed him sitting inside the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. with one leg on her desk.

After the burglary, Barnett told KFSM he was looking for the bathroom when he saw that the door to Pelosi’s office was open.

“I sat here in my desk. I’m a taxpayer. I’m a patriot. It’s not her desk – we lent her the desk,” he allegedly said. “And she does not appreciate the desk, so I thought I would sit down and appreciate the desk.”

He was charged with, among other things, violent trespassing and theft of public property. Previous reports claim he took a letter from Pelosi’s office.

A second suspect, Lonnie Coffman – who identified AL.com as 70 years old – is accused of having two handguns, an assault rifle and 11 Molotov cocktails with petrol and apparently homemade napalm, the official said.

Coffman, of Falkville, Ala., Was identified after police linked him to a suspicious red GMC pickup truck with Alabama signs.

Mark Leffingwell was also charged, accused of knowingly entering restricted land and assaulting an officer after entering the Capitol. In court documents released Thursday in connection with his arrest by the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP), Leffingwell repeatedly hit a USCP officer in the helmet and chest.

The fourth man is Christopher Michael Alberts, of Maryland, who is accused of illegally entering the Capitol while in possession of a loaded 9mm Taurus pistol, as well as a separate magazine filled with ammunition. USCP said Alberts, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, “immediately tried to flee” before police detained him, court documents show. He is accused of also having a pocket knife at the time.

Alberts told police he had the gun “for personal protection and he did not intend to use the firearm to harm anyone”, court records show.

A Republican lawmaker in the West Virginia legislature named Derrick Evans will soon be charged in connection with his actions Wednesday, the senior official said.

Also charged is Cleveland Meredith, who is accused of making foreign threats against Pelosi.

NEW FBI WANTED POSTERS IN CAPITOL RIOT MANHUNT

Joshua Pruitt and Matthew Council, of Florida, are facing charges for knowingly entering a restricted building or site without legal authority. The council is facing an additional charge of violent entry and disorderly conduct for allegedly pushing an officer.

Several others were charged with entering into a restricted building without lawful authority and staying there for the purpose of disrupting government affairs or official functions, and disorderly conduct and violent entry into Capitol grounds.

Those charged with such crimes have been identified as Cindy Fitchett, of Virginia, Michael Curzio and Douglas Sweet, both of Florida, Bradley Ruskelas, of Illinois, Terry Brown, of Pennsylvania and Thomas Gallagher.

Officials reportedly earlier announced the arrests of 82 individuals at the state, local and federal levels.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office released early Friday morning 40 photos of people still wanted in connection with the events Wednesday.

The Metropolitan Police Department said Friday morning that law enforcement agencies have received about 17,000 tips since releasing images of people wanted in connection with Wednesday’s uprising.

Ken Kohl, a senior official at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Columbia District, said investigators on Friday found no indication of Antifa’s involvement in the riots Wednesday. There were also no cases of members of the anti-fascism movement pretending to be Trump supporters to state them.

Asked on Friday whether the U.S. Attorney’s Office or the DOJ was seeking incitement charges against President Trump or any of his associates, a senior DOJ official replied, “We do not expect any such charges.”
