Surprise! This LG phone was one of the most activated devices in the US last month

There are some similarities between the Christmas Day list and the list for the entire month. The iPhone 11 was at the top of both lists. For December, it was 5.7% of all activated devices, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The latter accounted for 5.3% of smartphones activated in the US last month. With a market share of 3.5% each, there was a tie between third place iPhone 12 and the iPhone XR. The iPhone 12 Pro was the fifth most-enabled handset in the states to receive 2.5% of December activation. This was followed by the iPhone SE (2.2%), iPhone 11 Pro Max (2%), LG Stylo 6 (1.9%), iPhone 8 Plus (1.7%), and the Samsung Galaxy A11 (1.6%).

Flurry pointed out something interesting. The iPhone 12 mini is the only one of the four iPhone models of 2020 that does not make the list. The research firm blames it on the iPhone SE (2020) which they say cannibalized the iPhone 12 mini. The latter has a 5.4-inch screen and costs $ 699 and up. The iPhone SE (2020) is priced at $ 399, which offers a good price advantage and an even smaller 4.7-inch screen.

During December, Apple was the best smartphone maker in the United States, with the iPhone accounting for 46% of phone activations. Samsung was next with 27%, followed by LG and its 9% share. The “other” category combined 17% of December activation.

Speaking of December, year-on-year activation has dropped by 20%. Flurry says: ‘Overall reduction of December 2020 smartphone activity is 20% compared to December 2019. We believe the underlying driver is COVID-19, which has increased unemployment, reduced consumer spending and driven the majority of online sales transactions . Restrictions on family gatherings may have dampened the gift spirit as well. Although the total adoption of smartphones was down, a significant amount of devices were still accepted. “

What does the new year bring? Flurry will let us know when it announces the January activation numbers in a few weeks.
