Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is number 1 for the second consecutive week.
The Nintendo Switch exclusive dropped by 61% in sales compared to the previous week, which is a good result for a game on its second week on the map. The Wii U remaster is comfortably (so far) the best-selling new game of the year.
The FIFA 21 provided strong competition, which thanks to the recent price reduction had another boost in sales. Box sales rose 140% last week, and this week it increased a further 59%.
Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is also underway. There has been a lack of normal Switch shares in the market over the past week, with only bundle options available, of which Mario Kart was a prominent contender. The game increased by 19% in sales and moves from number 5 to number 3.
This means that Animal Crossing: New Horizons drops to number 4, the lowest position so far this year, with a 4% drop week-on-week.
Rounding out the top five is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which has actually risen a notch despite 9% week-on-week sales.
There’s a shortage of games over the next few months, with a handful of Switch releases and not much else. Bravely Default 2 on Switch is out next week, while Monster Hunter: Rise arrives in late March. The first very big PS5 and Xbox series games of the year only land in May, with Returnal, Resident Evil: Village and Deathloop, the first notable games.
As a result, we can expect this physical retail card to be strongly impacted by price reductions and the arrival of new console stock for all three major platforms.
