Super Bowl performances before the game give an inclusive and hopeful tone

R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan and country musician Eric Church performed the national anthem in the Super Bowl on Sunday. They were just a part of the memorable and inclusive performances that led to the contest, which began with Alicia Keys singing ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’.

HER followed Keys’ performance with a powerful rendition of ‘America the Beautiful’. Her actions were echoed by ASL interpreter Warren “Wawa” Snipe. Snipe, a deaf rapper, received much praise online for his signing during the live performances in the stadium.

Poet laureate Amanda Gorman recognized her spectacular lecture during the inauguration of Biden-Harris, a nurse, educator and Marine veteran who served as honorary captains of the play.

“We celebrate them by acting with courage and compassion,” Gorman read from her original poem. “By doing what is right and just, because while we honor them today, it is they who honor us every day.”

With so many women of color appearing during the pre-match performances, it was possibly the most inclusive Super Bowl ever.
