The Weeknd hosted the Super Bowl LV Pepsi Halftime show. He’s doing something never done before, with the stage set-up on the plots right next to the pirate ship of Raymond James Stadium.

Eventually he came into the field with his dancers, but there was no stage there. The pop star performed some of his top hits as well as some deep cuts in this electric performance.

He starts the performance in a convertible, with city lights behind him and Pepsi logos behind him. He incorporated lights, fog and fireworks to enhance his performance.

Here’s a look at the unique performance:

He did not have a surprise gas, which would probably avoid close contact and keep it safer during the pandemic.

The essay was due in part to The Weeknd itself, which gave millions of its own money to ensure the execution was the vision he wanted.

The Weeknd said during the teasing of the performance that the reason they made the change was for safety.

“Because of COVID and for the safety of the players and the workers, we built the stage in the stadium and we also use the field, but we wanted to do something we had never done before,” he said. “We built the stage in the stadium, but I will not tell you anything else, because you will have to watch on Sunday.”
