According to the county’s coronavirus website, Summit County reported 76 new cases and 12 hospitalizations due to the new coronavirus over the week.
The total number of cases is now 2,210 and 63 residents have been admitted to hospital since March 5. While this week 12 hospitalizations were added to the province’s database, the St. Anthony Summit Medical Center reported only nine hospitalizations among residents and non-residents that have occurred since. Friday, January 1st.
The remaining three hospitalizations can be attached to dates in the past, as the country sometimes confirms a patient’s COVID-19 positivity after leaving the hospital.
Despite the increase in hospitalizations that public health officials say can be expected after an increase in cases, Summit County statistics on the COVID-19 disk remain promising.
According to the state switchboard, Summit County reported 519.6 new cases per 100,000 people as of Friday, January 8, which is 158.2 lower since last week. However, the number remains in the red level on the state link. To reach orange, the province must report 350 or fewer new cases per 100,000 people.
The province’s positivity rate, which is the percentage of positive tests out of the total tests, is at 7.5%, which is 1.7% higher than last week. However, the number remains shallow yellow on the state link.
The new hospitalizations have tarnished the province’s status on the scale from shallow green to shallow yellow. According to the dashboard, the country had 11 days of stable or declining hospitalizations, which decreased from the 13 days it was reported last week.
Vaccines
First responders, health workers and people 70 years and older remain the only groups that can be vaccinated in Summit County.
At a Health Assembly meeting on Thursday, January 7, Public Health Director Amy Wineland said the country expects to use all of the 800 doses allotted this week at the end of the day on Sunday, January 10.
The province expects to receive 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for the week of Monday, January 11th. The country will distribute the doses to pharmacies at the City Markets in Breckenridge and Dillon and in the Safeway pharmacy in Frisco.
The remaining doses will go to the Summit Community Care Clinic and the Department of Public Health for Thursday, January 14th.
People can sign up at SCAlert.org to be notified when new vaccine appointments are available. The country will post a link to make an appointment at SummitCountyCo.gov/vaccine when slots are available.
