Summit County reports 136 COVID-19 cases during the week

According to the province’s coronavirus website, Summit County reported 136 new cases and two additional hospitalizations during the week due to the new coronavirus..

The total number of cases is now 2,346 and 65 residents have been admitted to hospital.

While the province is orange on the COVID-19 switch of the state, the case numbers remain red.

As of Friday, January 15, the province’s two-week incidence was at 723 new cases per 100,000 people, which is 203.4 higher than last week. The number is yet to drop to below the 350 new cases per 100,000 people’s threshold for shallow orange.

At a Summit County Board of Health meeting on Thursday, Jan. 14, Amy Wineland, director of public health, said counties across the state are seeing an increase in cases as a result of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Business has risen 17.2% in Colorado since before the holiday.

Although it remains yellow on the knob, the province’s positivity rate – the percentage of positive test results from all tests – has also increased. As of Friday, the country reported a positive rate of 7.9%, up 0.4% from last week.

The province’s hospitalizations remain green on the dial, with 13 consecutive days of stable or declining hospitalizations according to the switchboard.

The province’s website shows that ten COVID-19 patients, including residents and non-residents, were in the St. Louis area during the week. Anthony Summit Medical Center has been hospitalized.

Vaccinations

As of last week, the province has vaccinated more than 2,500 people and plans to have another 2,000 vaccinations done by the end of the day on Sunday 17 January.

Wineland has not given an update on how many vaccines the country will receive for next week.

Once the province vaccinates all the people currently eligible, the province’s weekly awards will be interrupted. Essential workers can only be vaccinated until 70% of the population 70 years and older have received the vaccine.

At a news conference on Friday, Prime Minister Jared Polis said the state expects to receive 210,000 doses from the country’s stock next week to go to second doses. However, the state will receive 79,000 doses next week, which is in line with the availability of stock, as the stock does not exist, Polis said.

“We lied with the administration’s plans to release reserve doses that would be the second doses of the vaccine,” he said. “Gen. (Gustave Perna said Friday) that there are no federal reserve doses.”

The state still expects to receive second doses; however, they will not be provided as quickly as the state expected, Polis said.
