Summit County case numbers drop significantly from last week

Summit County reported 72 new cases of COVID-19 over the week, according to the country’s coronavirus website.

The total number of cases among residents stands at 3,598. No new hospitalizations among residents were reported during the week, which has kept the total number since 13 March 2020 at 134.

The state’s COVID-19 chip expired Friday and Summit County health officials used a similar – though less restrictive – chip to use locally. With the change of the switch, Summit turned yellow again, which increased the capacity of many businesses, including restaurants, fitness centers, offices and personal services.

According to the state’s dashboard, the country reported 216.2 new cases per 100,000 people as of 16:00 on Friday. The number drops by 132.4 cases per 100,000 people from last week and falls in the blue level on the new slide. However, to reach shallow blue, 60% of Summit County residents must be vaccinated.

The province’s positivity rate – the percentage of tests that yields positive – is now 6.5%, which is 2.4 percentage points lower than last week.

The province’s hospitalizations are slightly higher with 11 days of decline or stable hospitalizations compared to 13 days of decline last week. Despite no new hospitalizations this week, the country reported two new hospitalizations last week, which were likely delayed by hitting the state’s dashboard.

Vaccines

According to the province’s website, 66% of residents received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 36.8% were fully vaccinated. Of the province’s residents aged 70 and older, 74.5% were vaccinated.

All Summit County residents 16 years and older can be vaccinated. Subscribe to CoMassVax.org.
