Currently the Dr. Fernando Joglar, vascular cirujano, is the only specialist in attending cases of trauma is this vital artery in the island

A retrospective study between the years 2011 and 2020 will demonstrate the effectiveness of a minimally invasive vascular technique in patients with recurrent trauma to the aortic artery.

The aorta is the main artery that carries the blood from the coronary artery to the rest of the body. Without embarrassment, the coronary artery bypass graft has been removed from the aortic valve.

The dates of this study were published in Medicina y Salud Pública (MSP) by Fernando Joglar, vascular and catheter surgeon of the Recinto de Ciencias Médicas (RCM). The study includes data from the Medical Center’s Trauma Hospital’s registry to validate all patients.

The traumas can be those of origin penetrating the type of romo, when it is a vehicle accident with motor, chains, between others.

The specialist explained that in the event of a traumatic impact on the aorta, before a thoracotomy was performed – a type of surgery to break the thoracic vein -, however, those who did not tolerate this type of intervention could benefit from an endoscopic procedure, of catheterism.

In endovascular repair, a femoral artery enters the femoral artery with a tube in order for the blood to pass through it. This procedure does not obstruct the flow of blood, ”explains the doctor.

“More than 13 miles of trauma interventions have been made during this period. In this case, 72 patients underwent an aortic intervention, 72, 68 had trauma and a large number of penetrating traumas, and 68 presented with trauma to the thoracic and abdominal aorta, ”explains he was also Deputy Director of Hospital de Trauma since 2004 until 2008.

The abortive surgery has ten different risks, a much higher mortality rate of 23% and an umbrella risk, which, if this procedure is carried out, reduces the flow of blood in the spinal cord and has young people who intervene in this way. and by supuesto al cabo de un tiempo no podían mover sus inferiores memberos ”, relation the doctor.

“Of the 4 penetrants, 2 eran of the thoracic aorta and the abdominal aorta”, indicates the doctor, adding that by March 2021, he has claimed that there are four cases of trauma to the aortic artery in Puerto Rico, the only one in its class that realizes this type of procedure.

The specialist recalls that the trauma to the aorta must be detected at a time when a vital scenario is taking place for the patient’s life and must be known in order to determine the type of procedure that is applied, then the comorbidities that can play a significant role the time to intervene surgically.

Sale of Puerto Rico on United States

El Dr. Joglar confirms that the data from this study demonstrated a sale of the techniques applied in the Isla versus aquellas of the United States, then the risk of mortality in Puerto Rico of the aortic repair technique at the endovascular level is only 4%, versus a 7.2% in stadium territory, according to published study dates, indicated.

“We do not have data published on terms of mortality. 89.8% of young men made it to a media age of 37 years. 94% receive trauma trauma. These data prove that this type of intervention can take place in Puerto Rico with good results ”. congratulations.

Another important date of the study is that some of the data are predominant as the bovine arch in the anatomy of these intervening patients. If the common carotid artery is removed then a joint with the affected artery is formed.

“We see that 34% of our studied patients have bovine arc and these are the only ones that we will experience because what is described in literature is what is described between 10 and 15% of cases. This type of patient is predisposed to having aneurysms ”beskrywe, adding that it is increasing its investigation by looking at why the patient has this type of anatomical tool that can predispose to serious conditions such as the aneurysms.
