The first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds went into production in Canada last month, and now let’s first look at who will join Captain US, Spock and Number One aboard the USS Enterprise.
Strange new worlds add five
On Friday, Paramount +, the streaming home for the new Star Trek Universe, announced five new cast members Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Babs Olusanmokun (Black mirror, Dune), Christina Chong (Tom and Jerry, Black mirror), Celia Rose Gooding (Jagged Little Pil), Jess Bush (Skinford, Les norton) and Melissa Navia (Diet country, Billions) are all on board as regular series.
They join Anson Mount as captain Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock and Rebecca Romijn as number one. Paramount + has not yet announced what roles the new actors will play, but they have released a video featuring the full cast talking about the production of the new series.

Today’s announcement also includes a new official summary for the series:
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the USS Enterprise. The series features fan favorites from season two of Star Trek: Discovery, Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Scientific Officer Spock. The series follows Captain Pike, scientific officer Spock, and number one in the years before Captain Kirk embarks on the USS Enterprise as they explore new worlds in the galaxy.
It was also announced today that the premiere of the series was written by executive producer and co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman with the story by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman is also the director of the premiere episode. In a statement, Goldsman said:
‘In a career, there is never enough work that is pure joy. I feel like my friend Alex Kurtzman, along with David Stapf at CBS Studios and Julie McNamara at Paramount + just gave it to me by letting me haunt the pantries of my favorite candy store, and I’m grateful. With a hellish cast and immortal love for the original series, we go with boldness. ”
The same statement also quotes Henry Alonso Myers, co-showrunner of Goldsman:
‘I am incredibly grateful to be playing with Akiva and our brilliant role in bringing the adventures of the Starship Enterprise to life. For someone who has been dreaming of spaceships and strange worlds since childhood, this show is a dream come true. ”
New SNW cast
Paramount + has not revealed details on what roles the five new players will play, but we do know a bit about their acting experience. Babs Olusanmokun and Christina Chong have the most comprehensive credits and are listed first in the release, indicating that they could play more prominent roles.
Babs Olusanmokun’s notable television credits include his roles in Netflix Black mirror, Marvel’s The defenders, HBO’s Emmy Award-winning miniseries The night of and the history of the miniseries in 2016 Carrots. His film credits include the upcoming and much anticipated Dune and Wrath of man.

Christina Chong is currently appearing in the live-action adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Tom and Jerry and in The CWs Bulletproof. Chong’s other television credits include Black mirror, Doctor was, the BBCs Ill behavior, the mini-series ABC event Of kings and prophets, the hit BBC series Line of Duty, SYFY’s Supremacy, Halo: Nightfall and Fox’s event `mini-series 24: Live another day. Movie credits include Christmas Eve, opposite Sir Patrick Stewart, and Johnny Engels: Reborn.

Celia Rose Gooding stars Frankie Healy Jagged Pill, a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s award-winning album, until the closing of Broadway in 2021, and received a nomination for the 2020 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her work. Previous theater roles also include Urinetown and fame.

Jess Bush stars as Helen in the indie role Skinford and appears in Kendall’s recurring guest role in the Channel 10 series Play for like. Bush also plays Bella in the Australian series Halifax – Retaliation. In addition, Bush left as a guest star on the ABC series Les norton versus Rebel Wilson and David Wenham.

Melissa Navia’s recent television credits include a recurring role in AMC’s highly acclaimed series Diet country and guest starring on Showtime’s Billions and Homeland. In March 2020, she made her Off-Broadway debut in the acclaimed Bundle of Sticks at the INTAR Theater.

The first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds started production on its first season last month in Toronto, Canada. It is expected to take ten deliveries. A release date has not yet been set, but it will likely appear on Paramount + in 2022.
