A stray pass arrives at a Dutch hospital at the weekend after he boarded a flight from Nairobi, Kenya to the Netherlands in the landing gear of an Airbus A330 cargo ship.
Authorities found the 16-year-old alive in the plane and suffered from severe hypothermia, reports The Telegraph. He is currently being treated in a hospital in Maastricht after completing the 5,000-mile journey.
It is not known how the teenager, who hails from Kenya, managed to get into the landing gear, but authorities said he was happy to be alive.
While this may seem like a great idea for a free flight, a ride in the landing gear of an airplane often results in death by exposure. Flights typically spend hours at 38,000 feet, where oxygen is also scarce.
“He was very lucky to get through this,” a Maastricht Aachen airport spokesman told Netherland News Live.
