Storm to dump heavy snow in parts of Plains, Mississippi Valley

Forecasters warned Sunday that a storm through parts of the plain and the Mississippi Valley is likely to bring heavy snow.

Winter storm warnings were in effect across much of the country, from eastern New Mexico to central Mississippi.

“Heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions are likely in Texas,” the Weather Service tweeted Sunday morning.

The Weather Service said on its website that heavy snow could make travel treacherous from west-central Texas to northern Louisiana.

The weather system also hit the southern Rockies.

“The areas north of Denver received the most snow tonight, with some places near 4,” weather service forecasters in Boulder tweeted early Sunday.

They also warned travelers early in the morning to watch out for dense fog and untreated roads that can be slippery from the snow and icy oysters.

Other parts of the US will also experience significant snowfall.

“Snow is spreading from southern plains to Central Appalachians; thunderstorms are possible in southern Texas today,” the weather service said in a note released Sunday at 2:20 p.m.

“Rain is likely to spread over the Gulf Coast and into the Southeast / Mid-Atlantic Ocean over the next few days,” he said. “Snow is expected to continue over northern Texas today before spreading over an area that extends into the Central Appalachians on Tuesday.”

“Winter storm warnings and winter weather advice were posted later today through Monday in much of the southern AR,” the weather service office said Sunday morning in Little Rock, Ark. “Snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will be possible in the south of AR, with usually an inch or less further north.”
