Someone spent a lot of money buying CD Project Red’s stolen game and engine code.

Just one day after hackers first leaked CD Projekt Red game source code for Gwent, an auction was held where they could present the stolen data to the highest bidder.

The auction was held on a popular hacking forum on the dark web, and according to the price, the auction started at $ 1 million Vx underground. The auction closed shortly afterwards, after hackers received a satisfactory bid, per KELA Research.

The listed purchase price was $ 7 million for the whole thing, but it is not clear how much was actually paid before the auction ended. This is because the offer, according to KELA Research, came from outside the forum where the auction was held. The buyer has also determined that the data will not be redistributed or sold in the future.

The forum post announcing the opening of the auction said the dump contained the source code for The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, a version of The Witcher 3, Thronebreaker, as well as the studio’s own RedEngine, which powers all of its games.

In addition, buyers also have access to a variety of documents obtained as part of the hack, including legal, HR, business, and other sensitive files.

In announcing the news of the hack to everyone, CD Project Red said it would not concede to their claims and pay the ransom, but rather should alert its affected partners and work with local authorities.
