Stock Toyota GR Yaris runs 12-quarter-mile

The GR Yaris, Toyota’s 257 horsepower four-wheel-drive sensation, is designed for stage racing and winding back roads. This is very good with the latter, as we found out from our first ride review. But turns are not the only thing the GR Yaris can do well.

EKanoo Racing, the tuner in Bahrain responsible for building fast-paced Nissans, McLarens and Porsches, recently acquired a GR Yaris for development tests. Before the firm made adjustments, the car took the car to the tow lane for some baseline numbers. It turns out that the car is quickly authorized from the factory.

Thanks to the car’s trick four-wheel drive setup, limited slip distances and low torque, it was recently able to land a quarter of a mile of 12.76 seconds on the Bahrain GP tow lane. We bet the strip’s sticky front surface helped a bit with the launch, yet it’s fast for a hot hatch with three cylinders.

We are curious to see how much faster EKanoo Racing can make the GR Yaris once it adapts. Considering how fast its efforts have been in the past, we are sure we will see some crazy times in the near future.
