Stimulus checks of $ 1,400 can arrive all this weekend

WASHINGTON – The White House says the $ 1,400 direct payments to most Americans funded by the U.S. bailout plan will appear in bank accounts this weekend.

Press secretary Jen Psaki says the government will make the first direct deposits in the first weekend. She says payments will continue for the next few weeks.

President Joe Biden on Thursday signed the $ 1.9 billion US rescue plan in the Oval Office.

“This historic piece of legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country,” Biden said when he signed the bill in the Oval Office.

Biden originally planned to sign the bill on Friday, but it arrived at the White House faster than expected.

In addition to direct payments to individuals of $ 1400, the plan includes money to help distribute coronavirus vaccines, alleviate homeowners and tenants, reopen schools, provide assistance to state and local governments, and expand of the child tax credit, among others.
