Walking Dead Alumni Steven Yeun received an Oscar nomination on Monday for his performance in Minari. The actor’s nod was historic: Yeun becomes the first Asian-American artist ever to be recognized in the lead role category. (See the full nomination list here.)
Shortly after he was killed Walking Dead in 2016, Yeun began talking about the professional frustration he experienced during his six-year career on the AMC zombie drama, telling Slate that he ‘felt beige with Glenn’, adding: ‘It was a bit of frustration I never felt could not explain to the wider society, to fans of the show … It’s like: nice guy, reliable, supportive, kind – beige. And as a Korean man I am not cream-colored. “
Yeun quickly remarked that he was nonetheless ‘incredibly grateful’ for his time Walking Dead. ‘Did I have a great time in the program? Yes! He continued. “I will not take back that experience at all. I made lifelong friendships. I had to learn so much. But I will say that I felt cramped.
