Steven Matz has a farewell message for Mets fans

Steven Matz apparently has no hard feelings that the New York Mets traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

“I will always be grateful to the Mets for the opportunity to play for my hometown team,” Matz tweeted in a farewell message on Thursday. ‘Thank you to Mets fans for all your support during my time in NY. And thank you to all my teammates and coaches – I wish you all the best of luck! ”

Matz, 29, was sent to the Blue Jays for three league prospects. Earlier this season, Matz got a $ 5.2 million contract, but it was spent on the recent additions of the Mets – which included another leftist, Joey Lucchesi of the Padres.

Matz also said he is looking forward to joining the Blue Jays and believes they can be a contender for the AL East.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to join the @BlueJays and one of the most exciting teams in the game!” Matz tweeted. “I would love to do my part to help this team get back to the playoffs, and you will get everything I have!”

The Mets, who want to complement their farming system, have gained three prospects in the deal – right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley, Yennsy Diaz and Josh Winckowski. According to the MLB Pipeline, Diaz was the highest ranking of the group, ranking 26th in Toronto’s farming system.
