Stephen Colbert opened The Late Show on Thursday – one year since the COVID-19 was officially considered a pandemic – by playing a slightly modified version of the new PSA with four former presidents.
In addition to the clippings of Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter that each promoted vaccinations, Donald Trump also predicted that the virus would magically disappear without a vaccination.
In fact, the 45th president was nowhere to be seen in the ad that appeared online Thursday morning. After dusting off his W. impression to drive the joke with Bush because he chose a baseball game as the thing he looks forward to most now that he has been vaccinated, Colbert addresses the one living former president who is conspicuously missing.
“Maybe his invitation got lost by mail … because he destroyed the postal service!” joked the host. ‘Ol’ 45 was left out of the POTUS PSA party, but he did make his own statement about the vaccine. ‘
From there, he read out the “statement” that Trump would rather have tweeted: “I hope everyone remembers when they get the COVID-19 vaccine (often called China virus), if I were not president, you would be on his best not get such a nice ‘shot’ for 5 years, and probably not either. I hope everyone remembers! “
