In his first Late show Stephen Colbert’s New Year’s monologue has been all about President Donald Trump’s not so ‘perfect’ call with Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
“Happy New Year! 2020 is over!” Colbert begins. “All this evil is finally behind us and we have a new beginning … with a raging pandemic and a president trying to steal the election. 2020 dropped some bonus cuts. ”
It quickly called him to the ‘jaw’ and urged viewers to ‘catch up’ for what he described as “if Watergate and the Ukraine scandal had a baby they made in the Access Hollywood bus.”
After playing the track in which Trump said he just wants Georgia to “find” 11,780 votes, Colbert replies: “That’s all he wants! He just wants them to find exactly how many votes he needs. to win one. Nothing disgusting about it! “
“If he wants to steal an election, he should sound less like your grandfather complaining about his phone,” the host added. ” There used to be a button on the bottom, now it uses my face. What did they do with the button? Did they hide it with the ballot papers in those voting machines? I hope they do not hide my face! ‘”
Later, during his interview with Stacey Abrams on Tuesday’s end of the Senate, Colbert asked her what she made of the fact that her name was mentioned several times during Trump’s call, including Trump’s suggestion that she “laugh” at Raffensperger.
“I think it’s a little exaggerated to say I’m thinking about it,” Abrams told him. “I’m focusing on winning this election. That’s not my business. ”
