Stephen Colbert confronts John Boehner for blaming ‘Both sides’

Former House Speaker John Boehner quickly worked on Meghan McCain The view Monday Morning. He met a somewhat formidable interviewer in Stephen Colbert later that evening.

Boehner, whose new book On the House: A Washington Memoir Colbert describes as ‘juicy’ and ‘candid’, and promises to be just as revealing during his Late show look. About bourbon and Cabernet, Boehner teased about the various “jackasses” he had to deal with during his time as the “mayor of Crazytown” in politics. He also eagerly repeated his new monk for Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), “Lucifer in the Flesh.”

But when Colbert pushed him to explain how his party was going so far from the deep end, Boehner tried to inflict Democrats and Republicans on both sides. He blamed the “right-wing media” for “wanting more noise”, but added: “The problem is not only the far right but also the far left.”

‘I think Republicans have gotten better at having a media arm that helps inflate their worst instincts than the Democrats do, but if both parties do, why can Nancy Pelosi compare her insanities, and you can not yours does not correlate? ‘

Boehner acknowledged that Pelosi did a better job of keeping the Democrats together than the Republican leaders did, but then tried to say it was because Republicans were more “independent” than Democrats.

“Wait a minute, I do not think this is true!” Colbert shoots back.

From there, the host tried to get Boehner to admit that Trump’s role in the January 6 uprising essentially made him a “political terrorist,” but he resisted the label. When he admitted that he had voted for Trump in 2020, Boehner claimed that he suddenly felt ‘abused’ when the former president refused to concede and claimed that the election had been stolen.

By the time they got to the ‘speed round’, in which Colbert demanded immediate responses from the most powerful politicians of the past two decades, Boehner was mostly generous. He called Mike Pence a ‘very good man, solid Christian’, and just said that Trump was ‘a little crazy’, and nicknamed Mitch McConnell ‘Stealth Father’.

Colbert insisted on explaining what happened to sen Lindsey Graham (R-SC), but Boehner simply calls him “one of the funniest people you will ever meet in your life.”

‘As funny haha or like funny what the fuck is wrong with that guy? Asked the host in response.

Boehner maintained that Graham is legally funny and also a ‘pretty good dancer’ on the issues.

As for Cruz, however, he could not hold back. “Lucifer in the flesh,” he said once more with a smile, before adding, “The most miserable son of a bitch I’ve ever dealt with.”
