Steph Curry gets MVP songs on Joel Embiid’s home floor after dropping 49 points

Steph Curry made just two mistakes against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night: he had too much turnover (six) and he chooses Skittles as his preferred candy over M&M (objectively wrong).

Everything else about Curry’s actions was impeccable. He averaged 49 points, including 10 three-pointers, in a 107-96 victory that brought the Dubs back to 0.500 on the season. He averaged 40 points for April, something only four other players have ever done in a full month, and he overtook Wizards guard Bradley Beal as the NBA leader.

Of course, if you pull off these achievements, you will start yourself directly in the most valuable player discussion. And even in Philadelphia, where co-candidate for the MVP, Joel Embiid, lives, Curry got some MVP songs when he moved to the free throw lane late in the fourth quarter.

Now, straight up, the songs are almost certainly coming from Dubs fans in the house, and it was not overwhelming – Wells Fargo Center can only own a fraction of its maximum capacity due to COVID-19 protocols. But it was still scary to hear fans sing anything at this stage of the pandemic, let alone the star player of the visiting team.

Thanks to Curry’s supernova efforts, the Warriors were 6-2 over their last eight games and are just two games back from the No. 7 team, the Dallas Mavericks, in the Western Conference. If Curry continues to drop 40 pieces, he may have the best individual award of the league. Magic Johnson, just like the Warriors fans in Philadelphia, has already talked himself into it.
