Steelers land franchise QB in new NFL Network mock draft

It’s not at all out of the question for the Pittsburgh Steelers to pick a quarterback early in the NFL draft in 2021. Despite reports that Ben Roethlisberger will return to the team this season, the front office acknowledges that there should be a plan for his successor.

But former NFL general manager and current NFL Network analyst Charlie Casserly just gets the hope of Steeler Nation too far with his new spot design.

Casserly has four quarterbacks coming off the board in the first round, which is pretty common among NFL draft experts. He also has the Steelers who selected the fourth fullback with the no. 24 overall choice. The destroyer here is Casserly. Former Ohio State defender Justin Fields has made the choice.

Although the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger plan to continue their partnership, I do not see the veteran playing much longer. In a beautiful event, Fields moves up to no. 24 (it will of course not be a surprise if he leaves much earlier) and Pittsburgh wants the chance to win a talented successor to Big Ben. Sitting behind a future Hall of Famer for a year is a great place for the Ohio State prospect.

This kind of scenario is a complete wishful thinking. I would not rule out that Fields is the third or even fourth fullback of the board, as the two prospects differ. There are definitely teams where Fields does not fit the best scheme. That said, if Fields falls out of the Top 10, there will be many teams that want to pull up and pick him up, and Pittsburgh could be one of them.
