Steelers’ coaching training shows growth by HC Mike Tomlin

One constant for Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, during his tenure at the Steelers was an almost impossible level of stubbornness to change. Whether it’s on a micro level in a game or more philosophical stuff, Tomlin was historically unwilling to adapt.

Instead, we had a press conference after a press conference where Tomlin talks about execution and that no major changes are needed. But it looks like that’s going to change.

There is a real possibility, based on recent events, the Steelers could replace as many as six assistant coaches this season. If it’s coming from a 12-4 season, it may seem unusual. But when you think about how far this team has fallen in the last six games, including a loss for the first time in the playoffs, it puts the season in perspective, especially the start of 11-0.

But today’s announcement gives hope that Tomlin will grow as a coach. It is ultimately he who acknowledges that it is time to pull this team into the present with new ideas and new concepts. A fresh perspective on the game that may not come soon enough.

However, it is also about self-preservation. Tomlin has understood for the past ten years, and his actions did not live up to the expectations of the fanbase and this franchise. Tomlin has the opportunity to save and even build on his legacy, and these moves are going to decide how Tomlin is remembered.
