Steam can now stream games with 8K resolution and we immediately thought of you

I just realized: I never came back to thank you for buying the $ 30,000 8K television. I mean, I’m sure the $ 1,500 coupon helped? But I feel like I still owe you a little more.

How about this: why not be the first to stream computer games with 8K resolution to the other side of your mansion? When we saw that Steam now supports the feature, we immediately thought of you.

Imagine the possibilities: you can sit on your fully-fledged $ 9,000 toilet with your 8K backup TV – as you do – and instead of wasting so much of the beautiful pixels on a pillar-shaped Snyder Cut, you can already use 33+ million of them to toss some non-demanding game with a resolution of 8K out of your blinding rainbow death chest of an RTX 3090-equipped gaming computer, without leaving the sanctuary on the other side of you to disturb house!

You probably will need that level of the computer, of course, and even then 8K might not be a given. “The results can depend a lot on the hardware,” reads Valve’s release notes. I would also suggest a wired Ethernet cable to reduce the delay, and you may want to unlock your bandwidth limit in Steam> Settings> Playback> Advanced Client Options – because 50Mbps may not cut it to 8K resolution. However, you would know better than us.

8K Remote Play is now available in the stable Steam client after coming to beta a few days ago.

In all seriousness, it’s pretty cool to see Steam prepare for the TVs of the future. And send us a very high resolution photo of your setup if it is also your TV.

On the other hand, if you’re the kind of person who can not afford new games, less than an 8K TV or a luxury computer, Valve also has good news for you – the company just brought Steam Remote Play Together URL share from beta so friends can send you a link to join their local multiplayer games, even if you don’t have a PC or Steam account.
