Statue of Liberty-sized space rock between six asteroids that will take a ‘close approach’ to Earth on Biden’s inauguration day – RT USA News

Joe Biden’s reign as US president is set to make a rocky start – an avalanche of asteroids will take a close approach to our planet as Democrats take the oath of office on Wednesday.

NASA has identified six asteroids that will flare past Earth on inauguration day. The space agency described the abundance of space bricks as Near Earth Objects (NEOs), which means they need to be carefully examined.

“NEOs are comets and asteroids pushed by the attraction of nearby planets in orbits that enable them to enter the Earth’s environment,” NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory says.

An asteroid comes significantly closer to the earth than the moon, the largest visitor with a width of up to 93 meters. In a strange inauguration period, the Statue of Liberty in New York is also 93 meters long.

All of the asteroids are expected to fly safely through our planet and travel further through space. However, NASA’s center for near-Earth object studies will continue to monitor their progress closely due to their “Now approach” status. Astronomers are very interested in NEOs, because they are largely unchanged from the fact that the solar system was created about 4.6 billion years ago.

Biden was sworn in during a ceremony in Washington DC on Wednesday afternoon. Donald Trump’s presidency has seen the United States greatly renew its interest in space exploration.

Trump is throwing his weight behind NASA’s goal of sending astronauts to Mars, and supporting efforts to return to the moon. He also established the Space Force as an independent branch of the army. Biden’s plans for the US space program are largely unknown, and in his campaign, the priorities in space are mentioned little.
