State Epidemiologist Updates on COVID-19 in Michigan

(WXYZ) – The Department of Health and Human Services in Michigan on Wednesday morning gave an update on the trends of COVID-19 in the state.

Dr Sarah Lyon-Callo, the director of the Bureau of Epidemiology and Population Health at the MDHHS, talked about tests, disease trends, outbreaks, hospitalizations and more.

The update comes amid a huge increase in COVID-19 cases. According to The New York Times, Michigan has 13 of the top 20 metro areas that see COVID-19 outbreaks, with Detroit taking second place.

According to the state, the percentage of positivity is 348% higher and the case is 375% higher than the previous low on February 19, and Michigan has the most cases and the highest cases in the country.

In addition, deaths have also increased by 75% since the low point on 19 March and between 14 March and 20 March there were 166 deaths.

The current positive positivity in the country is the highest since April 24, 2020.

Hospitalizations also apply to all age groups, and in total it has been 360% higher since 28 February.

The state has reported thousands of new cases a day in the past week, and there are now more than 100,000 active cases of the virus in Michigan, the highest since mid-November when a partial strike was announced.

Michigan is also vaccinating the population, with those who are 16 and eligible on Monday. To date, the state has nearly 3 million people who have been fully vaccinated.
