In January, it was reported that the Single-A and Double-A seasons would not start in time. The same goes for the highest level of minors, as the Triple-A campaign of 2021 “will be delayed by at least a month,” writes Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. It would start on April 6th.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no minor season in 2020, although the hope for this year is that they will be able to resume play sometime in May. Due to the delay, alternative training facilities will return this season and may take longer than expected, in part due to concerns about fewer travelers, according to Passan. The alternative sites contain about two dozen players, Passan adds.
Despite this setback, Passan writes that there is hope that the delay of the Triple-A lead will enable the vaccination of players and a full season. The campaign runs until September when it opens in May.
