Starfield, Bethesda’s long-awaited sci-fi RPG, could only be launched this year, according to a journalist.
Jeff Grubb, a Venture Beat reporter with a well-known record for accurate leaks, appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel Dealer – Gaming earlier this week. He claimed to know some new details about Bethesda’s plans for Starfield, claiming that the developer will unveil the space RPG at E3 2021 later this year before aiming for the end of the year.
Grubb states that Bethesda is targeting a similar marketing cycle as Fallout 4. Back at E3 2015, Fallout 4 was officially launched to the world for the very first time, with Bethesda revealing that it will be launched within a few months later, later that year. Finally, Fallout 4 launched in November 2015, giving the game less than six months from its release to its release.
According to Grubb, Starfield is aiming for an outreach date at the end of 2021. The journalist declares, of course, that the only complicating factor is of course COVID-19, which can absolutely throw off Bethesda’s best-laid plans, depending on how the rest of this year goes. While Grubb says the current plan is to launch Starfield by the end of 2021, that could easily change as the year goes on.
This information is actually in line with a rumor that was circulating earlier this month. Earlier in March, a ResetEra user claimed that Bethesda was targeting a 2021 Starfield release date, and this information was as accurate as a few months ago. This could all be reflected by Bethesda chief developer Todd Howard, who revealed that Starfield was another way to release in November 2020.
At this time, we do not know whether Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda will affect Starfield’s release. Although we know it’s being developed as a next-generation game, a previous rumor claims that Sony only negotiated a Starfield exclusivity period a few months ago, which would possibly be scrapped by Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda.
In the wake of the purchase, even PlayStation boss Jim Ryan was not sure if Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 would come to PlayStation platforms. We’ll have to wait to see if Starfield will get to platforms outside the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and for more information on when the game will actually launch.
