Starbucks branches in Manhattan were closed amid fears of disorderly or violent protests in the days before the inauguration of President Joe Biden.
The riot at the US Capitol on January 6 made the country uneasy, but even more disturbing was the news from the FBI that there was a measurable “online chat” of further violent protests.
Governors in different states lock their Capitols out of an abundance of caution in hopes of avoiding similar incidents.

Now even businesses have begun to take extra precautions not to repeat the 2020 protest against police brutality that looted and vandalized New York City businesses.
A Starbucks spokesman confirmed to FOX Business that selected locations in Manhattan were closed – a decision made by local leaders, not at the corporate level.
The NYPD has confirmed to FOX Business that protest marches are planned for Sunday, although this is not at a level that justifies the closure of businesses.

“We have no indication that they are going to be big or disorderly,” an NYPD spokesman said. “I do not know why Starbucks would go out of business.”
An additional NYPD official has confirmed that the force will maintain a ‘strong presence’ in Trump-affiliated locations, including Trump Tower in Fifth Avenue.
The group reviews the measures every day, without any clear indication that further action could take place in the days before Biden’s inauguration.

“After the inauguration, we will re-evaluate our security position,” a senior NYPD official said in a statement to FOX Business.
