Star Wars Republic Commando comes to Nintendo Switch and PS4 in April as a single-player game • Eurogamer.net

The popular tactical shooter Star Wars Republic Commando is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on April 6, 2021, developer Aspyr has announced. The game was leaked earlier in February when it came to Nintendo Switch. Now it has been confirmed.

Republic Commando was originally released in 2005 on a PC and the OG Xbox. It is set up during the clone wars and lets you play as a clone troop and manage the rest of your group with you. Here’s how it looked back in the day:

Aspyr said it brought back Republic Commando as a single-player experience with modernized controls. The original game, currently available on PC, and Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One via backward compatibility, has a multiplayer option for 16 players.

Already in 2005, Eurogamer Republican gave a positive review, with Kristan Reed considering it at the time as “the best Star Wars shooter ever”.

Texas-based Aspyr, recently acquired by THQ Nordic parent company Embracer, has taken shape when it comes to bringing old Star Wars games to modern platforms. Late last year, it brought Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 to mobile devices. For that, Star Wars brought Episode 1: Racer, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast to PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
