Late last year, a new “gameplay teaser” for STALKER 2 fans gave a new impression of the game. The teaser preview did not represent the real game, but it was created using Unreal Engine 4 and is designed to give people an idea of what the game will actually look and feel like once they get their hands on it. Now, now the developer GSC Game World has provided a little more detail on what we saw in the teaser (which you can see again below).
Most importantly, GSC Game World has confirmed that STALKER 2 will have a new protagonist – a lone stalker named Skif …
You see this world through the eyes of a stalker named Skif – remember the code name, you will hear it a lot. STALKER 2 introduces a brand new protagonist in the footsteps of its predecessors. His actions will form the new major chapter in the history of the Zone.
Here’s a little more context about what happened in the teaser.
The short scene takes place in the ruined school on the outskirts of the dead town of Pripyat. This is an extremely dangerous place, and no one wants to be here at their will. The place does not look completely deserted after all: there is a new fire with a guitar in the area. Skif, however, barely has time to admit it: he looks in a hurry. An inevitable danger seems to follow him.
And here it is: an emission. A signature of the STALKER. series, a powerful release of the anomalous energy from the center of the Zone. Emissions occur from time to time and are extremely dangerous: they can kill you in the blink of an eye. If a stalker sees a start to the emission, they should immediately hide and wait until the end of it, hoping they can get through. Therefore, Skif is in a hurry: he is definitely looking for cover in the nearby building.
However, the situation is far from safe: the building is half destroyed and the PDA apparently does not work: the signal is lost. All things considered, it’s easy not to notice someone hiding in the shade. He does look familiar, though …
According to GSC, the development of STALKER 2 is progressing smoothly, and they are on course to deliver the 4K ray detection they promised for Xbox Series X. The game will also release Day 1 on Xbox Game Pass. Hopefully this means that the game will indeed arrive without delay this year.
STALKER 2 is expected to hit PC and Xbox Series X / S sometime in 2021.
