VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) – A memo from the Vatican State Secretariat abolished ‘individual’ masses celebrated at numerous altars in St. Peter’s Basilica and confined the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) to a single altar in the manger of the basilica.

The unsigned order, in force on March 22, puts an end to the centuries-old use of Mass by priests who alone celebrate “apparently” to ensure that the Holy Mass is held in the Basilica of St. Peter in a climate of remembrance. and liturgical decor. ‘

The dictation banished the TLM to the small Clementine Chapel of the Vatican Cave and ordered the celebration exclusively by “authorized priests” at four specific times from 7–9 am.

‘Lone’ priestly festivals celebrated by the TLM or the Novus Ordo (New Rite) will, according to the order, be obliged to join in ‘concelebrations’ of the Novus Ordo.

Several sources confirmed to Church Militant the authenticity of the Vatican document after intense speculation on social media Friday night and the Holy See Press Office’s refusal to respond to media questions.

“The document now hangs in the St. Peter’s Sacristy,” sources told Church Militant after two priests in the Curia who regularly celebrate alone at its altars said they were shocked and had not yet been informed of the memo.

A canon based in Rome questioned the validity of the document: “If the author cannot be identified, the decision is invalid because it lacks an essential element of a legal act.”

The text was signed by a non-identifiable, unnamed individual, who appears to be from the First Division General Affairs of the State Secretariat under the leadership of the Venezuelan Plc. Edgar Peña Parra, currently under investigation for allegations of sodomy, abuse and corruption.

“Secondly, in my professional opinion, the decision is invalid because it is insufficiently motivated,” the canon remarked. “It is res inaudita (unheard of) for the State Secretariat to ban ‘unauthorized’ masses in the holy basilica of St. Peter. ‘

“What are the real reasons for such an abuse of power and power attack in the name of individuals of the State Secretariat?” asks the canonical legal expert.

‘The beautiful tradition of priests celebrating private Mass at its altars of St. Peter’s Basilica – as it has been for more than a thousand years – which is so uplifting for early morning visitors, is threatened, apparently because way, ‘the dr. Joseph Shaw, chairman of the Latin Mass Society of England and Wales, told Church Militant.

“Ordinary or visiting priests who wish to celebrate the usual form will henceforth be obliged to join a limited number of scheduled masses, unless they have a group of pilgrims with them,” said Shaw, a fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of Arts, said. “Four slots for the extraordinary form (TLM) are also, it seems, almost made available as an afterthought.”

Pope Francis drives traditionalist Latin Mass Catholic Catholic underground.

Shaw expanded:

The motivation for this step seems to be the maintenance of what is described in various documents as a ‘preferred’ option, when two or more priests want to celebrate the Mass to celebrate them. It has been found in official documents since 1967, although the use of priests celebrating each other is a complete innovation of the same decade. The only historical precedent for the practice is that priests help bishops.

The arguments for the celebration as a ‘preferred option’ are undermined by the fact – which Pope Benedict repeated in 2007 (in Sacramentum Caritatis) – of “the objectively infinite value of each celebration.” Given the value of each Mass, it is clearly a retrograde step to reduce the number of crimes by celebrating different priests just one, instead of celebrating multiple individuals.

In addition to the scheduled Masses offered daily at the main altars of the Basilica, St. Peter’s 45 altars and 11 chapels are visited each morning by clergy – often by priests working in Curia of the Vatican – to celebrate their daily Mass.

Sources told Church Militant that they had personally seen the growing annoyance of modernist clergy targeting younger people, especially students at Roman and Pontifical universities attending the small morning TLM early in the morning.

The tradition of priests celebrating private masses is threatened because someone wants to promote the celebration of the mass in a very compelling way.

The Curial priest said the memorandum was aimed at ‘canceling’ the St. Peter’s Basilica’s TLM by making it ‘virtually invisible’ to tourists and Catholics entering the sanctuary. “Pope Francis literally drives traditionalist Latin Mass Catholics into the catacombs.”

Others have suggested that the newly appointed modernist archbishop of St. Peter’s Basilica, the 55-year-old Cdl. Mauro Gambetti, is responsible for the ‘traditional purification’.

However, the controversial memo was not addressed to Gambetti, but to the extraordinary commissioner of the Dust of St. Peter’s Basilica, Abp. Mario Giordana, whose department does not deal with the liturgies of the basilica, but its preservation and maintenance.

The memorandum also requires that ‘lecturers and offices’ be missed by the ‘authorized’, leading to proposals that Pope Francis intends to make the laity at St. Peter’s Basilica more visible as an example for other churches to follow. after its changes in January. to the Canon Act which institutionalizes female lecturers and acolytes.
