St. Lucie County to run COVID-19 vaccination clinic

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – St. Lucie County hopes to increase its efforts to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to residents 65 and older.

Health department officials announced Friday that they will open a drive-through mass vaccination clinic at St. Louis on Jan. 11, 12, and 13. Lucie County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierce is held every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

People aged 65 and over and healthcare professionals can only receive the COVID-19 vaccine by appointment. To make an appointment, click here.

Provincial health administrator Clint Sperber said he expects St. Lucie County will vaccinate about 1,500 a day in the clinic.

“We know the current supply is not enough, so be patient, because more vaccines are coming into the state and eventually into St. Lucie County,” Sperber said.

According to the latest figures from the Florida Department of Health, there are 15,701 confirmed cases of deaths related to COVID-19 and 424 coronaviruses in St. Louis. Lucie County.

County Administrator Howard Tipton said St. Lucie County is in the midst of a “second and stronger wave” of the coronavirus, and that the province has had an average of 190 new cases a day in the past two weeks.

“The numbers show us, we help spread this virus. We need to do better,” Tipton said. “We are seeing by far the most cases we have seen since the beginning of this pandemic.”

Tipton said that despite the numbers, they are not looking for facilities or to change provincial operations.
