It is not often that a car manufacturer claims to have broken the record for the fastest production car in the world. But if the internet BS calls on the record and has to try the car twice again, then you will really sit up straight and pay attention.
This is the saga of the $ 1.6 million Tuatara supercar from boutique manufacturer SSC North America. The car’s first record of 316 km / h was short-lived; it was questioned almost immediately by internet sleuths, to the point where SSC was forced to review its video recordings and GPS data, found inconsistencies and promised to set the record again.
It was only with the company’s third attempt that it finally set the record at 282.9 km / h, although it was nowhere near the 316 km / h that made it the first time.
