Square-Enix talks about how the pandemic delayed Bravely Default II in 2021

Bravely Default II comes to Switch on February 26, 2021, but the game was originally intended to launch in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic led to a significant delay in the game. In an interview with Famitsu, Bravely Default II manufacturer Masashi Takahashi went into detail about how the pandemic drove things back. Check out his comments below, as translated by NintendoEverything.

Developments that overlap with the spread of the virus, coupled with the fact that we are not sure how long things would last, have had a major impact on the case.

For example, progress with voice recordings for foreign languages has been slow. We had to train the voice actors remotely, and they had to record in their own homes without background noises, and then send the sound back to us – everyone involved really gave it their all and we did it. We are a few months behind schedule, but we were able to do the voice work without much effort.

However, both Square Enix and Claytechworks switched to working from home, so it took time to create home office environments. Even after we were able to get things going to some degree, we had some wrong communications because we worked that way the first time. It was a difficult decision to make, but given the situation, we delayed the release until February 2021.
