Squad members call Georgia runoff prematurely: ‘We have Mitch out’

While votes in Georgia’s special Senate runoff on Wednesday morning were still being counted, three members of the thriving ‘Squad’ in Congress apparently called the races before the final numbers were calculated.

“For every organizer, volunteer, campaign staff, donor and cheerleader who cries tears of joy, we see you and thank you! Rest, you deserve it,” said Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Tweeted ET before midnight. with both Georgia races still stiff and uncalled for.

A while earlier, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D, NY, tweeted, “Thank you organizer.”

“We got rid of Mitch,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Tweeted prematurely, reflecting the fact that Democrats would have a slim majority (50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the ties) in the Senate if they would both race. (Two senators are actually independents talking to the Democrats.)

Georgia’s progressive election activist and former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who was largely credited by Democrats with helping Joe Biden win the state in November, did not go as far as the group’s members.

“With new voices joining the voices, we are on a strong path,” Abrams wrote early Wednesday. ‘But even as we wait for more, we come to celebrate the extraordinary organizers, volunteers, doers and tireless groups who have not stopped since November. We roared all over our country. ‘ A few kilometers further … but well done! ‘

The races, both nail-biters, continued to go back and forth and were too close to call from midnight ET Wednesday.
