Springfield’s City Utilities works to restore power to nearly 6,000 customers after ice storm

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield City Utilities teams work through the morning to recover the thousands of power in its network following an ice storm on New Year’s Day.

Starting at 11 a.m., Joel Alexander of City Utilities reported 6,000 customers without electrical service. Alexander says the changing conditions with precipitation and temperatures often complicate recovery efforts.

Alexander says at the height of the storm, more than 12,000 customers were without power.

“Overnight, CU line and tree crews began responding to interruptions as the weather allows,” Alexander said in an update Friday morning. ‘Most disruptions were caused by limbs and trees coming into contact with the power lines. However, there is at least one utility structure that is damaged. Additional line and tree teams are coming up to help CU teams. ”

Additional line and tree crews showed up to help and will do repairs as soon as possible.
