How COVID-19 deaths are reported
Not all deaths reported to the Department of Health occur within the weekly reporting period. The health department receives COVID-19 death reports from hospitals, long-term care facilities or the office of the medical examiner in Greene County. There is usually a delay from the date of death to the day it is reported, as circumstances are reviewed to ensure that COVID-19 becomes a significant contributor to death. There are no set time frames for how long the reviews last, as each circumstance is unique.
A new chart on the dashboard reflects when a person dies from COVID-19 in our community. These news reports will continue to reflect the number of deaths reported to us on a weekly basis.
