SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom could be one of the most unlikely video games of all time, a licensed project that was a great game and a valuable challenge for the fast-paced running community. But the absurdity does not stop there: SpongeBob Speedrunners recently discovered that staining their Xbox chips can result in much better times, although the tactics may become obsolete in the near future.

A new video by YouTuber and SpongeBob speedrunner SHiFT details the findings of the community. In essence, the Controversy over Bikini Bottom the disc interferes in a specific way with the ability of the Xbox to read it, resulting in brackets between the game and the menu screen making it much easier to perform a ‘laugh clip’ important trick that allows players to push through usually inaccessible obstacles by overloading the game with excessive pauses.

The fast running community has long tried to optimize Controversy over Bikini Bottom run on the hardware side and catalog the different versions of the Xbox disk to find out what faster loading times offer. The downside is that the faster the console accesses data from the game disc, the harder it becomes to slow down the clip. But by combining smeared disks with the fastest hardware, serious players can theoretically have the best of both worlds.

Speedrunners are known to do some wild things to beat faster. Besides, we only played it for hours on end. crawling on the floor while in virtual reality, inject their own code Super Mario World, and even mess with the Famicom by placing it on a hob. I’m not quite sure where to rank spray ketchup on a Controversy over Bikini Bottom disc in pursuit of the best, but it’s definitely up there.

Upon further testing, however, it was found that this smashing method is quite unreliable, not to mention the bad way to destroy copies of an 18-year-old game. Some speedrunners have also come to the conclusion that lag clips are too dependent on hardware inconsistencies to be considered a viable or rewarding tactic.

“It’s too much,” SHiFT explained during a Twitch stream last night. ‘You need something as fine as a scratch on the disk to make these things work, and we’re not going to ruin our chips. It’s just not going to happen. This is ridiculous. And as I said before, it is unethical to do so because the purpose of speed running is to maintain a game. ”

SHiFT further explained that new developments in Controversy over Bikini Bottom speedrunning can cause deceleration cuts, and so the need to screw around with discs is outdated anyway. By making it legal to run the game from hard drives via soft muddy Xboxes, the community would be able to level the playing field by normalizing load times across the board and making laugh clips impossible, reducing the frustration of going to the perfect console search, remove the perfect disk drive to make the difficult technique a little less.

There is not a single, unifying body in the middle of speeding, but rather a diverse collection of stand-alone scenes that mostly do their own thing. Controversy over Bikini Bottom players need to get together and figure out what’s best for them, while balancing frustrating mechanics and accessibility for newcomers. At least we now know that smearing their slices with ketchup is (probably) off the table.
