LOS ANGELES (AP) – Spike Lee’s daughter and son have been selected as the Golden Globe Ambassadors to assist with the awards ceremony.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Tuesday morning that Satchel and Jackson Lee are accepting the ambassadorial roles for the 78th annual Golden Globes award in February.
Satchel, 26, and Jackson, 23, are the first siblings of color to hold the post. Jackson is the first black male ambassador.
Both attributed their aging to their filmmaker’s father and mother, Tonya Lewis Lee, who is a film and television producer.
“We are proud to carry the legacy of storytelling from our father to pay attention to communities that are close to our hearts,” Satchel Lee said.
Satchel chose to work with Callen-Lorde, an organization that helps LGBTQIA + communities with health care in New York City. Jackson works with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the voluntary support network.
“As a visionary creative person, my father Satchel and I learned the importance of entertainment as a cultural catalyst of change,” he said.
Callen-Lorde and Big Brothers Big Sisters each receive an award from the HFPA for $ 25,000 made on behalf of the Read.
Satchel said the choice of Callen-Lorde and the organization’s health initiatives are important to her to ‘support the LGBT + community, because this is my community. Everything I do, I just have to give back to the people and communities who have given so much to me. ”
Jackson said he chose Big Brothers Big Sisters in an effort to guide them in the same way his father led him.
“The fact that my father accompanied me changed my life,” he said. ‘Giving someone else the opportunity and someone younger than me is a way to pay for it in advance. It feels like a duty I have to do. ”
An ambassador is traditionally a child of a celebrity who helps with awards, handing out trophies to winners and guiding them off stage.
Previous ambassadors include Pierce Brosnan’s sons Dylan and Paris Brosnan, Idris Elba’s daughter Isan Elba and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter Simone Garcia.
The Golden Globes ceremony will be held on February 28 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The program honors achievements in film and television.
