Specialized UK Headquarters Gutted by Fire

Specialized’s headquarters in the UK were hit by a fire last night with a four-hour attempt by the London Fire Brigade to get the fire under control.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the six on Saturday at 18:36 where they deployed twelve fire trucks and about eighty firefighters to tackle the fire at Chessington Business Park. The LFB found that no one was injured, but a warehouse was destroyed.

UK Specialized Marketing Head Kirsty Woodcock told Cycling Weekly: ‘Last night we were notified that a fire had hit our British headquarters in Chessington. Luckily no one was hurt, but unfortunately the fire had a devastating effect on our offices. There will be some short-term changes to certain business operations, but our warehouse is located elsewhere and riders need not worry. ‘

Neil Guyett, the LFB station commander who attended the scene, said: ‘Firefighters showed up to find a well-developed fire and worked hard to bring it under control in a long incident. There was thick smoke all over the business park. ‘

The cause of the fire is unknown, but the LFB’s fire investigation unit and the Metropolitan Police Service are now investigating what could have caused the fire.
