SpaceX will try to ‘capture’ its Super Heavy rocket using the launch tower

SpaceX may not be relying on legs to land its next-generation booster rockets. Elon Musk het revealed that his company will try to “capture” the future Super Heavy booster using the launch tower arm, with the grid fins (used to help control the descent) bearing the burden. As TechCrunch explained, this process will hook the rocket effectively with the tower arm before it reaches the ground.

It requires very precise positioning, and there is still a long way to go when Super Heavy flight tests will only start early in a few months. However, if successful, the capture method could deter SpaceX from adding bulky bones to its rocket. A truly accurate maneuvering system can even reduce the turnaround time by having SpaceX reload the rocket without sliding it from its landing position.
