US airlines received $ 15 billion in the $ 900 billion package, which expanded the Payroll Support Program (PSP) for the industry. According to the terms of the aid, airlines must keep all their employees on the payroll by 31 March and must take back those who were harassed in October.
“The new law provides salary support to all employees of Suidwes until 31 March 2021. Given this, we do not currently expect any further plans or remuneration to take place next year,” Gary Kelly, CEO, told employees on Monday.
PSP was an important provision from the CARES law last spring and prevented airlines until October. Since then, American Airlines and United Airlines have captured 32,000 employees and Southwest warned in December that 6,800 workers would face failure to act.
Southwest has never had a layoff since it was founded 50 years ago, and is one of the most profitable U.S. airlines.
