South Carolina Principal Henry Darby works night shift at Walmart to help students

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – A high school principal in South Carolina took a part-time job at Walmart and donated his salary to those in need.

Henry Darby, principal at North Charleston High School, is considered the guardian angel of his community.

“A few years ago I had two students, who were female, who slept under the bridge. There was another situation where a former student of mine and her daughter slept in their car, and a different situation “where a former student needed funds for her water and light bills,” he told WCIV-TV.

Darby understood the bigger picture and took action. He started working at Walmart three nights a week, and he built shelves from 10pm to 7pm.

“I was taught if your hands find something to do, do it. Then I came to myself and said, ‘Maybe I need another job in terms of part-time,'” he said.

He said one of his students recognized him on his very first work night.

“Someone shouted, ‘Hey, Mr. Darby, do you work for Walmart? Are you not the principal? “And it blew me out of the water, and then I said, ‘This is it, I’m just going to do what I need to do,’ ‘he said.

His decision to stand up and deliver resulted in nearly $ 100,000 in donations from across the country.

Now that Darby’s story has gone viral, Walmart has donated $ 50,000 to North Charleston High School.
