Los Angeles Rams defense coordinator Brandon Staley, who kept the Green Bay Packers waiting for him in Saturday’s Divisional game, will also keep the Philadelphia Eagles waiting for him when this season ends, according to league sources.
The Eagles have already obtained permission from sources to interview Staley at the right time. It could already be Sunday if the Rams are not progressing. Staley will participate in the list of head coach candidates the Eagles are already considering because they conducted their week interviews.
The Eagles are based on Staley and the reputation he built during his year as Sean McVay’s defense coordinator in Los Angeles, as well as the skills he showed in Denver under Broncos head coach Vic Fangio.
The Eagles are not the only team interested in Staley. The Houston Texans also got permission to interview Staley, and there is a connection to that.
Staley coached at John Carroll University, where new Texans general manager Nick Caserio also attended. The two have a strong relationship and perhaps Caserio’s presence could help lure Staley to Houston.
But the Eagles want to talk to Staley; they made it known. He is one of their best candidates and could, depending on what happens on Saturday, have a chance to meet with the NFC East team soon to fill the vacant head coach he created last week when he sacked Doug Pederson.
