The New England Patriots have signed former Los Angeles Chargers coach Hunter Henry to a $ 37.5 million three-year deal, including $ 25 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Henry, who turned 27 in December, opted for rookie fullback Justin Herbert and had the best 60 receptions for 613 yards and four times for the Chargers last season.
He is now joining a Patriots team undergoing a passive overhaul. The team agreed on Monday on a total of nearly $ 100 million worth of contracts for Jonnu Smith and wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne.
Henry (6 feet-5, 250 pounds) played on the franchise tender last season, earning $ 10.6 million.
He has not played a full season in his NFL career and has missed the last two games last season after being placed on the reserve / COVID-19 list. He missed the entire 2018 season after tearing his ACL and four games in 2019 after suffering a tibial plateau fracture in a win in the opening week over the Indianapolis Colts.
Compiled by the Chargers in the second round of the 2016 draft, Henry had 196 receptions for 2,322 yards and 21 touchdowns in five NFL seasons.
